PT KAI Serves 13.15 Million Subsidized Passengers Forming Equitable Transportation

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) noted that it has served 13,155,181 passengers of the subsidized public service obligation (PSO) until September 2025 as a form of commitment to provide access to public transportation that is evenly and affordable.

"As of September 2025, KAI has served 13,155,181 customers on PSO subsidized long-distance and local train services, an increase from 12,263,091 customers in the same period in 2024," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday, October 16.

He said his company continues to strengthen its role in providing affordable and equitable public transportation services for all levels of society.

This increase, according to him, is clear evidence of KAI's support for the achievement of Asta Cita Pemerintah, especially in realizing equitable development, increasing people's productivity, and strengthening sustainable infrastructure based on green transportation.

Anne explained that PSO is a form of state presence in the public transportation sector, where every citizen has the right to access decent and affordable mobility.

He further said that PSO is a tangible form of social justice in transportation. Through the collaboration between KAI and the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation, the state ensures that people's mobility is maintained, from big cities to remote areas.

"This is a concrete step in realizing equitable development," said Anne.

In addition to maintaining accessibility, PSO services are also an important part of efforts to transition clean energy and green mobility. Train modes are the most energy efficient and low emission public transportation compared to other land transportation modes.

"Every trip by subsidized train means taking part in protecting the earth. When people choose to take the train, they help reduce air pollution and carbon emissions. This is a real collaboration between the government, KAI, and the community in building a green future," he said.

The PSO train service supports the daily mobility of the community from workers, students, to small business actors who rely on public transportation to carry out their activities and grow the local economy.

Throughout January 'September 2025, Airlangga, Sri Tanjung, and Kahuripan trains became the three most attractive long-distance services because of their efficiency, comfort, and friendly tariffs.

He added that until September 2025, PSO KAI Group's total subscribers reached 331,644,633 customers or 89.88 percent of the total KAI Group customers as many as 369,002,910 customers.

Government support through the Ministry of Transportation's DJKA also includes various services of KAI Group subsidiaries, from urban transportation to airports. KAI Commuter recorded 293,287,197 Commuter Line and Local Train customers who became the backbone of agglomeration mobility in Jabodetabek, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and West Java.

The Jabodebek LRT serves 20,769,914 customers, providing modern and low-emission urban mobility. Meanwhile, KAI Airport serves 4,432,341 PSO customers, consisting of 1,345,536 YIA Airport Train customers and 3,086,805 Srilawangsa train customers in Medan who strengthen connectivity between airports and city centers.

The PSO program is an integral part of the vision of sustainable development that is in favor of the people as well as environmentally friendly. Rail-based public transportation not only opens access, but also suppresses fossil energy consumption and strengthens its commitment to Net Zero Emission 2060.

"We believe that development is not only about infrastructure, but also about environmental responsibility and social sustainability. With the support of the government and public awareness, the railroad will continue to be a green and just future path," said Anne.
