The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has disbursed a budget of IDR 246.36 billion to build 43 suspension bridges in various parts of Indonesia.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said the progress of the suspension bridge construction had reached 81 percent and was estimated to be completed this year.

Dody said the suspension bridge was a solution for people who had difficulty getting access to transportation when crossing from one location to another.

"The suspension bridge accelerates community activities, especially in supporting economic activities, education and public services," said Dody in his official statement, quoted on Thursday, October 16.

He projects that as many as 300,000 people will be helped by the presence of the 43 suspension bridges.

With these conditions, he assessed that the economic activity will increase because trade activities from one region to another can be connected.

"Children can go to school without having to cross the river with rafts and the public can access public services more quickly," he said.

Meanwhile, next year, said Dody, his party will allocate a budget of around Rp920 billion to build 122 other suspension bridges in the country.

Determination of the location will be through technical studies and field surveys so that they are distributed to areas in need.

Regarding the size of the suspension bridge, said Dody, it stretches between 40 and 120 meters with a width of about 1.8 meters.

He believes that this measure will be able to support public transportation access to make it easier to travel from one area to another.

"The bridge is a means of connecting people's lives on two sides of the river, accelerating the mobility of residents and strengthening interactions between residents, which have been separated by the landscape," he concluded.
