The Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) together with the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) signed a strategic partnership to strengthen the legal protection ecosystem against collective brands of cooperative products.
This initiative is expected to be a leverage in increasing the competitiveness of cooperative products in the national and international markets.
Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Ferry Juliantono said this collaboration was a concrete step in building a cooperative economic ecosystem that was competitive and oriented towards protecting intellectual property rights.
Through registration, this collective brand is not only an administrative formality, but is a joint movement to foster people's pride, confidence, and economic independence through cooperatives.
"Local quality products in the regions often lose in the market just because they do not have a strong and protected identity, (so) today we witness the signing of a collaboration between the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to strengthen the ecosystem development process in the form of support for collective brands from the products of cooperatives," said Ferry, Tuesday, October 14.
Ferry emphasized that by having the legality of the brand registered with the Ministry of Law, it is certain that the products produced by cooperative members have added value and legally recognized quality guarantees. That way the problem of marketing both in the domestic and international markets will be much easier.
"Through the Circular Letter of the Minister of Law Number M.HH-AH.10.02-142 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Collective Trademark Registration for Cooperatives and MSMEs, we have a clear legal umbrella to protect the identity of cooperative products and accelerate the registration process in all regions," he said.
According to Ferry, cross-ministerial collaboration is part of the government's efforts to raise the class of cooperative business entities so that they do not lag behind SOEs and the private sector.
So far, the existence of cooperatives has often not been taken into account so that public attention to cooperatives has been shifted by the role of SOEs or the private sector. Even though cooperatives have historical records that are very important in building the foundation of the national economy.
"I am sure, with the registration of collective brands, cooperatives and MSMEs, they will advance to class. Cooperative products are no longer seen as small products," said Ferry.
Ferry assessed that strengthening collective brands can be an important instrument to accelerate the achievement of national economic growth. Cooperatives are expected to be able to contribute significantly to the economic growth target of 8 percent launched by the government.
"Hopefully later the cooperative will have a big role in achieving the government's targets. God willing, the Ministry of Cooperatives will continue to synergize and strengthen connectivity so that our cooperatives will not be left behind again," he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas welcomed the cooperation between the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Ministry of Law and emphasized the importance of registering collective brands as a form of legal protection for the intellectual property of cooperatives.
According to him, this step will create legal certainty as well as open investment opportunities in the cooperative sector.
"Cultral brand protection is not only a matter of identity, but also an important instrument to protect the economic value and reputation of cooperatives," he said.
