Minister Of Agriculture Amran Optimistic Of Food Self-Sufficiency This Year: The Hilal Already Exists

JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Andi Amran Sulaiman, is optimistic that the national food self-sufficiency target will soon be achieved. According to him, signs of success have been seen so that opportunities to realize food independence this year are getting bigger.

"Initially our government was targeted for four years to achieve self-sufficiency, then accelerated to three years, then he (President) asked for one year."

"The hilal is already there. God willing, self-sufficiency can be achieved this year, for the next four months there will be no extreme climate," Amran said in an official statement, Monday, August 18, 2025.

Amran said the Government is targeting self-sufficiency achievements not only to meet national food needs, but also to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global market.

According to him, the commitment to meet domestic food needs is in line with the great spirit of the Indonesian nation which does not back down.

"The principle is to sail once, never go back to the beach. The meaning is, if you go forward you never go back. God willing, because the President has targeted self-sufficiency, pray that this year it can be realized," he said.

Furthermore, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the vision of making Indonesia a world food barn is a great goal that can only be achieved with hard work, innovation, and great leaps in the agricultural sector.

"This is extraordinary. This is what raises our spirits. Like in the agricultural sector, his dream (President) is to make Indonesia a world food barn. It's not easy, but we have to jump exponentially," said Amran.

Funds Of IDR 164.4 Trillion Focus On Strengthening Food Security

President Prabowo Subianto explained eight priority agendas for the 2026 State Budget Draft (RAPBN), at the MPR/DPR Annual Session, on August 15, 2025.

The eight agendas include strengthening food security, energy, education, health, people's economy, defense, and accelerating global investment and trade.

The first priority agenda conveyed by the President was strengthening food security as the foundation of the nation's independence with a budget allocation of IDR 164.4 trillion.

The government targets self-sufficiency in rice and corn through the printing of new rice fields, distribution of subsidized fertilizers on target, support for superior seeds, and modernization of agricultural equipment.

"The presence of the government has been felt since early 2025. The government has cut 145 regulations on the distribution of complicated fertilizers, our 145 regulations are cut."

"As a result, rice production increases, rice stocks in government warehouses are above 4 million tons, stable prices, farmers are more prosperous. In the future, we will continue this success story," he said.
