Sad To Say, 5,500 BTPN Workers Lost Their Jobs Due To Digitization

JAKARTA - PT Bank Tabungan Pensiun Nasional Tbk. (BTPN) is reported to have cut its workforce to thousands of people during the current pandemic. This was confirmed directly by the President Director of BTPN, Ongki Wanadjati Dana.

"About 5,500 of our employees chose to look for a better place", he said in a webinar, Thursday, May 6.

Even though they have to face an unfavorable situation, Ongki believes that a large number of workers who are no longer registered as part of the company can take a better path.

"Everyone can be a suitable company, some have even started their own business", he said.

He added, currently, his party is increasingly maximizing digital implementation in business service activities. According to him, the technology utilization strategy is considered to be able to boost operational efficiency, including those from the labor side.

"Previously, many of our branches contributed less optimally. Through digitization, performance will be more effective and efficient", he said.

For information, BTPN is a financial services institution controlled by Japanese investors, namely Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, which holds 92.43 percent of the company's shares.

Based on the consolidated financial summary of BTPN for the period 2020 which was reported to the Indonesia Stock Exchange, it was noted that the number of company employees was 19,235 people. This number decreased slightly from the closing of 2019, which was stated at 19,370 workers.

Meanwhile, the number of branch offices is 84 units, and sub-branch offices are 266 units with the head office located at Menara BTPN, SCBD Mega Kuningan Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the ATM network is claimed to total 227 units with 141 payment points and 45 functional offices.

In terms of performance, the bank, which began operating in 1958, posted a net profit of IDR 971 billion by the end of the first quarter of 2021. This value grew 29 percent compared to the same period in 2020 of IDR 752 billion.
