May Day, Workers Will Take To The Streets Asking Elected President To Reject Cheap Wages

JAKARTA - Workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) will take action May Day or commemorate International Labor Day. One of the agenda is to ask the president to be elected to abolish outsourcing and low wages.

The May Day itself is celebrated every May 1, 2024. The action will be carried out at the State Palace, Jakarta from 9.30 to 12.30 WIB.

KSPI President Said Iqbal said as many as 50,000 workers from Jabodetabek would participate in this May Day action.

"After that, at 12.30 a.m., the action of 50 thousand workers will move from the Palace to Istora Senayan to celebrate May Day Fiesta," Said Iqbal said in an official statement, Friday, April 26.

Said Iqbal said the two main issues that will be drawn up in this action. First, revoke the Omnibus Law on Job Creation. The second is the HOSTUM or Remove Outsourcing and Reject Cheap Wages.

"For May Day Fiesta, it will be held at Istora Senayan and filled with speeches. Among them are the national oration of the President of the Labor Party and the oration led by the labor union," he said.

Through this momentum for International Labor Day, KSPI hopes that the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, in his policy, will pay attention to the two main issues that have been voiced as above.

"The Labor Party and KSPI welcome and agree with the stipulation of the Indonesian KPU which has appointed Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka who have officially become Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia and Vice President of Indonesia who will be sworn in in October 2024," he said.

For your information, this May Day action will also be carried out simultaneously throughout Indonesia by involving a total of hundreds of thousands of workers, including in Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Jogja, and Batam.
