JAKARTA - The obligation of halal certification for micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) will take full effect from 2026.

Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Administration Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan said halal certification obligations do not only apply to food and beverage products, but also for textile sub-sectors to genetic engineering products.

This was conveyed by Haikal during a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission VIII of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, July 14.

"As we have revealed that 2026 is the year for determining the obligation to be certified halal for products other than food and drinks," said Haikal.

"So it is necessary to get special attention, namely other raw materials that must be processed next year, namely medicinal products, including health supplements, cosmetic products, including chemical and genetic engineering products," he continued.

According to Haikal, corn is currently included in one of the genetic engineering products.

So it is necessary to get special attention so that the product can have halal certification in the coming year.

"For genetic engineering points, last month we visited the corn harvest. And according to the country's program, where corn has now become genetic engineering, this will be our special concern as well," he said.

Including, said Haikal, textile products that must have halal certification starting next year.

"Employment includes textiles, writing equipment. Even for medical equipment, it's also at the hospital, not just the food," he said.
