JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) will start the construction of the Muna' Buton Bridge in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) next year.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo during his visit to Buton Island, Southeast Sulawesi, Sunday, July 13.

"The construction of the Muna Buton Bridge will begin next year, as a form of the government's commitment to strengthening connectivity and encouraging economic growth in eastern Indonesia," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Monday, July 14.

The 2,969 meter long planned bridge will connect Baruta Village in Central Buton Regency with Palabusa Village in Baubau City.

The Ministry of Public Works targets that the construction of this bridge will be completed in the next four years, aka in 2030.

"This strategic project is expected to be completed within four years after construction begins," said Dody.

The plan is that the Buton 'Muna Bridge consists of several important components, namely the 1,278 meter long Muna Island short road, the 186 meter Muna Island short bridge, the 765 meter main bridge, the 525 meter Buton Island short bridge, the 215 meter Buton Island short road, and a special 2 meter long motor lane.

With the presence of this bridge, Dody believes that community mobility and distribution of goods between Muna and Buton will increase significantly.

In addition, the construction of this bridge is also projected to strengthen the growth of the trade, transportation, small and medium industries and tourism sectors.

"We hope that the Buton 'Muna Bridge will become a driving force for the regional economy as well as a symbol of progress in the development of inclusive and sustainable infrastructure in eastern Indonesia," he concluded.
