PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (Amman) is now entering a new phase 8 mining round at the Batu Hijau Mine, following the completion of Phase 7 at the end of 2024.
The total Phase 8 mineral reserves of around 460 million tons will extend the age of the mine by 2030.
Vice President of Corporate Communications of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk, Kartika Octaviana explained, the closing rock peeling activity has been going on since 2021 to ensure a smooth interphase transition.
"Phase 8 production in the early days of this transition started from the outer and top sides of the Green Stone pit which had lower metal levels," he said, Tuesday, May 13.
He added that mining will continue towards the center and interior of the Green Stone pit which contains higher levels of mineral ore. Thus, increased production will occur in the next few periods.
He ensured that Amman continued to drill intensively in 2020 to find new reserves that could prolong the age of the Batu Hijau mine.
"In addition to our efforts to increase operational efficiency and productivity, as well as increase commodity prices, we have succeeded in adding 5 years of Batu Hijau mining age. This is very important in supporting regional and national economic pulses, including related to employment opportunities for thousands of employees, contributing to local and central government revenues," Kartika explained.
Phase 8 is also present in the midst of crucial global momentum.
Copper, the main commodity of the Green Stone Mine, is the key to the world's clean energy transition.
Wood Macson, a global research institute and consultant projected that demand for copper would continue to soar in line with the adoption of low-carbon technology, from electric vehicles to renewable energy infrastructure.
"Amman is committed to carrying out responsible mining practices and making a real contribution to society and the country. We believe Phase 8 will be the next milestone for AMMAN and Indonesia," Kartika said.
