JAKARTA - The Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) together with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding efforts to establish the Red and White Village Cooperative (Kop Des).
The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Budi Arie Setiadi and the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anindya Novyan Bakrie.
Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Budi Arie Setiadi said President Prabowo Subianto had a very large commitment to revive cooperatives, so that he could contribute more to the national economy.
The synergy between Kemenkop and Kadin Indonesia is expected to accelerate efforts to encourage village independence and improve the welfare of the village community through Kop Des Merah Putih.
"Pak Prabowo has a heart for cooperatives and the people, because that is the idea of forming the Red and White Village Cooperative which he proclaimed is how the village community is not trapped by moneylenders, tengkulak and the economic system is unfair in the village," Budi Arie said in a written statement, Saturday, March 15.
Budi Arie hopes that the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry can assist the Ministry of Cooperatives in strengthening institutions and digitizing, especially the Red and White Village Cooperative.
In addition, it can also be involved in assisting and increasing cooperative management human resources, so that output is generated from the Kop Des Merah Putih program as requested by President Prabowo Subianto.
"We definitely really need cooperation with Kadin because to form 70,000 Kop Des needs maximum coaching (to cooperative administrators), so it is hoped that cooperatives will return to the constitution's economy," he said.
In the signing of the MoU which was held on Friday afternoon, March 15, the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry agreed to exchange and/or utilize data and information to facilitate assistance for the development and management of supply chains for basic commodities, agricultural products and medicines in villages.
The Coordinating Minister added that through Kop Des Merah Putih, the welfare of the village community could be lifted because the practices of tengkulak to moneylenders would be eliminated.
In the end, Kop Des Merah Putih can become a bridge for poverty alleviation efforts that still occur in rural areas.
"Kop Des is also one of the ways to alleviate extreme poverty, which amounts to around 3 million people in villages. So, I am optimistic that together with Kadin we can advance the people with the progress of the village (economic)," he said.
Regarding the transparency aspect in the management of Kop Des Merah Putih, Budi Arie promised to optimize the active role of various parties to participate in monitoring.
According to Budi Arie, this is necessary because several cases of fraud were carried out by administrators in several major Indonesian cooperatives due to the lack of supervision of cooperative governance.
"We will not repeat past mistakes, in which the behavior and management of cooperatives are misappropriated by cooperative elements so as to damage the good name of the cooperative. So, the management of this cooperative must be transparent, professional and accountable," he concluded.
