Cak Imin On TKDN: Don't Just Dare To IPhone, Dare To Go To Car Products

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar stated that Indonesia must also dare to enforce the requirements for the level of domestic components (TKDN) to the automotive industry, not only to Apple companies.

"Don't just dare to iPhone, be brave for car products, like being brave for the iPhone lately," said Gus Imin, Muhaimin Iskandar's nickname, in a public discussion entitled National Electric Car and EV Battery Industry in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 6.

Gus Imin wants motor vehicle imports, especially cars, to follow the TKDN requirements.

He hopes that by complying with the TKDN requirements, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia can be involved in the development of the domestic automotive industry.

Gus Imin then referred to the development of the automotive industry in China, especially how China involved various MSMEs. He alluded to the high export of Indonesian coconut to China at high prices.

"Why (export coconut)? There the ecosystem is clear, once the electric car is live, (business) the car seat is on. Coconut fiber is needed for the car seat," said Gus Imin.

Therefore, by enforcing the TKDN requirements for imports from the automotive industry, Gus Imin believes that the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia will be formed, accompanied by the emergence of MSMEs that support the development of the domestic automotive industry.

"With the ongoing ecosystem, the car seat industry, the engine industry, will grow. Small, supporting industries such as Japan are a good ecosystem," he said.

Gus Imin assessed that Indonesian MSMEs need industrialization to build a strong and strong industry. MSMEs also require a large economic ecosystem, which wants to involve and boost the lower middle-middle economy.
