JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the Integrated Highway Cross (LRT) mass transportation mode will use high technology, namely Grade of Automation (GOA) level three. With this technology, the train will operate automatically without a driver.

Later, the LRT will connect several cities, namely Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodebek). Furthermore, Luhut said that the LRT is projected to be operational from August next year.

"The use of the GOA system that has been standardized internationally and has been tested for safety indicates that we are a nation capable of solving problems, in this case related to transportation issues. We have a fighting spirit," Luhut said in a statement, quoted on Friday, October 15.

Luhut explained that this technology allows trains to be operated through a computer system automatically and in real time so that they do not require a driver. Therefore, of course, many things need to be considered in more detail, including important aspects in ensuring the safety and service of the Jabodebek LRT later.

According to Luhut, he was proud of the technological innovation. Because, Indonesia can now have a mass transportation mode with advanced technology.

The train was created from a collaboration between the Ministry of Transportation, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), PT LRT, PT Industri Kereta Api (PT INKA), PT LEN Industri, and PT Adhi Karya.

"Continue to maintain solidarity and enthusiasm in the next LRT test, because the challenges will have higher difficulties," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Zulfikri revealed that the fastest progress for the Jabodebek LRT is on the Cibubur-Cawang crossing with 98 percent completion of the work.

Zulfikri said, currently the line is also often used to test trains. A total of 31 trainsets aka the Jabodebek LRT train series have all been sent to Jakarta from the PT INKA factory in Madiun. One trainset itself consists of six carriages.

"This Jabodebek LRT uses advanced operating technology with train technology that existed in Indonesia before," he said.

For your information, the Jabodebek LRT consists of 31 train sets which initially started in October 2019. This LRT train set was dispatched from Madiun to Jakarta for further field trials. This process is a follow-up to the internal testing conducted by PT INKA.
