COVID-19 Pandemic Encourages WFH, Faisal Basri Reveals Shocking Thing: 4.5 Million Workers In The US Refuse To Return To The Office

JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) senior economist, Faisal Basri, revealed that 4.5 workers in the United States (US) refused to return to work from the office (WFO). The reason is that they are comfortable working at home or working from home (WFH) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Faisal, changes in work behavior patterns in the future will continue to occur and tend to be permanent. So to maintain business, companies must continue to adapt quickly.

"Our work and the way we work have also changed. Today we heard that 4.5 million US workers don't want to go back to the office anymore, they just want to work remotely", he said in a virtual discussion, Wednesday, October 13.

Faisal said that to avoid the imminent threat of bankruptcy, the state must also make changes to the business model in a fast time.

Furthermore, Faisal said that only countries that can enter into international trade or in world supply chains can get out of the threat of bankruptcy.

Therefore, Faisal also urged the government to be more adaptive to the dynamics of the economy that continues to develop at this time.

"So the countries that survive are countries that rely on intra-industrial trade as part of the global supply chain", he explained.

Not only that, Faisal said, the government must accelerate the process of structural transformation that is being carried out. The application of technology and digital talent is immediately prepared to be able to compete.

"Because technology will inevitably respond to the crisis, historical experience shows that", he said.
