JAKARTA - PT Pertamina New Renewable Energy (PNRE) is targeting the installation of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 500 MegaWatt (MW) in several Pertamina Group operational locations.

PNRE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dannif Danusaputro said the PLTS construction had been carried out in stages since the end of 2020 with a target by the end of 2021 of around 50 MW, including at 1.000 Pertamina General Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU) on Java Island.

"In addition to being environmentally friendly, the use of PLTS in Pertamina Group is also closely related to the efficiency obtained, which is to save more on electricity costs", he said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Monday, August 2.

PNRE has completed the construction of solar power plants at the Badak LNG Terminal, Dumai Refinery, Cilacap Refinery, Sei Mangkei SEZ, as well as at a number of gas stations.

The development of environmentally friendly power plant infrastructure is in line with the energy mix target and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the Pertamina Group by 30 percent by 2030.

Dannif explained that the positive impact resulting from the use of PLTS 500 MW will have the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 630 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.

According to him, the initiative is one part of the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap that is integrated into Pertamina's business to support efforts to curb climate change.

"EBT development, including PV mini-grid, is a future investment for anyone, including business players. The energy transition is a necessity and a major need in today's world for the realization of a healthy environment through the application of clean energy", said Dannif.
