TIMIKA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Wamena National Road Development Center (BPJN) plans to continue the opening of a road link connecting Banti Village to Aroanop Village, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Papua.

Head of Mimika Public Works Agency, Robert Dominggus Mayaut, in Timika, Monday, said that the road segment has been opened about 8 kilometers from the 10 kilometer plan by the Mimika Regency Government several years ago.

However, the work was stopped when there was a security disturbance around the Banti area by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).

"The Ministry of PUPR plans to continue this year through BPJN using APBN (State Budget) funds. They will take over the section. From the information I have received, a contract has been made for the road construction work", said Robert, quoted by Antara, Monday, June 28.

He explained that the newly initiated road was only limited to opening access so that residents could pass.

The remaining section that has not been opened is around Mount Botak towards Jagamin Village, Aroanop with a fairly steep slope.

As planned by the Mimika Regency Government, the Banti-Aroanop access road will later be connected to the Trans Timika-Nabire Road, to be precise around PT Pusaka Agro Lestari (PAL), a company that manages oil palm plantations.

The length of the road that must be built from Aroanop Village to the Trans Timika-Nabire Road is estimated to be around 40 kilometers through steep mountainous terrain and several bridges that must be built.

The road section is expected to become the main access for residents of Banti, Kimbeli, Opitawak to Aroanop to be able to travel to Timika and vice versa so that they no longer have to cross the PT Freeport Indonesia mining road.
