BRI: There Are 30 Million MSMEs That Have Not Been Financed Formally

JAKARTA - Regional CEO of PT BRI (Persero) Bali Nusra Rudy Andimono said there are 30 million units of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, which have not been touched by formal financing assistance.

"As we know that there are 30 million MSMEs which nationally still have not been touched by formal financing, so with synergies that will further strengthen our role in helping these MSMEs to be able to continue their activities properly without being burdened with high-interest rates", he said in a press release, in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, June 8.

Rudy said that BRI as a development agent for the empowerment of MSMEs has a responsibility to make MSMEs advance to class.

"We, as one of the development agents for the empowerment of MSMEs, are responsible for MSMEs to be able to advance to class. Starting from the ultra-micro scale which we will increase to micro and then into retail and hopefully some can become corporations. Entrepreneurs must move up", he said in a statement in an event entitled "Meeting Bali Young SMEs, Ultra Micro Socialization by Gde Sumarjaya Linggih" in Denpasar, Bali, Saturday, June 5.

Meanwhile, Sumarjaya Linggih, who is the Deputy Chair of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), said that from the government side, the budget for MSME support was provided through six stimuli, namely through MSME interest subsidies; production assistance in micro-enterprises; subsidy of underwriting fee or IJP; placement of funds in commercial banks; in the form of tax incentives; and six credit restructuring.

He initiated the event so that synergies and collaborations are well established between the government, academics, business people, the community, and even the media and financial institutions.

"In order to create a conducive ecosystem in an effort to accelerate the recovery of the national economy so that the benefits can be felt directly by micro and ultramicro actors. This must be simultaneous between health and the economy. MSMEs are expected to be able to boost economic growth that is currently slumping", said the senior Golkar Party politician.
