JAKARTA - Trade Minister Budi Santoso emphasized that the plan to adjust the highest retail price (HET) of MinyaKita is not related to the mandatory biodiesel B50 program which will be implemented by the government starting July 1, 2026.

According to Budi, the plan to increase HET is purely influenced by the increase in the price of raw materials, especially crude palm oil (CPO), as well as the increasing cost of producing cooking oil.

"There is absolutely no (connection with B50). This is a factor because CPO prices are rising, production costs are rising," said Budi when met at the Ministry of Trade, Jakarta, Sunday, May 3.

As is known, the B50 program is a policy of mixing 50 percent of palm oil with 50 percent of diesel which is projected to significantly increase CPO demand. The increase in demand has the potential to drive CPO prices in the market.

However, Budi emphasized that the plan to adjust the MinyaKita HET has no direct relationship with the implementation of the policy. He said that the MinyaKita HET price itself has not changed since August 2024, while economic conditions continue to move.

"Moreover, the price of HET Minyakita is from 2024. It's been a long time, everything must change its economic value," said Budi.

Currently, Budi continued, the government is still studying the plan to adjust the HET MinyaKita with related ministries and agencies. However, Budi could not confirm when the decision would be announced to the public.

"We will discuss it again now," he said.

On the other hand, Budi ensured that the supply of MinyaKita in the market was safe and the price was relatively stable. Based on field monitoring, the price of cooking oil is currently in the range of IDR 15,800 per liter, down from the previous IDR 15,900.

"Today the price is around Rp. 15,800. Previously it was Rp. 15,900, so it's even better," he said.

Even so, Budi admitted that there were still a number of areas that had higher prices, such as in Papua. This condition is influenced by distribution constraints.

"There are indeed certain areas that are quite expensive, for example in Papua because of distribution factors. We have asked Bulog to distribute to Papua," he explained.
