Rescue Garuda Indonesia, Commission VI DPR Encourages Audit Of Financial Statements Involving BPK To AGO

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) is on the verge of bankruptcy. Not only bearing debts of up to Rp70 trillion, Garuda's condition was also exacerbated by the occupancy of passengers who had fallen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a loss of US$100 million or Rp1.4 trillion per month. In order to support the rescue of Garuda, Commission VI of the DPR is pushing for a financial audit to be carried out.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission VI, Faisol Riza, urged a forensic audit of Garuda's financial statements to be carried out immediately. He said the audit was carried out by involving law enforcement and authorized institutions.

"Regarding the rescue of Garuda Indonesia, I look more at the legal strategy. Starting with a forensic audit of the financial statements of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk by involving the BPK, the KPK, the Attorney General's Office, other authorized institutions," said Faisol Riza in a written statement to reporters in Jakarta, Friday, 4 June.

According to Faisol, through this legal strategy, all indications of the causes of Garuda Indonesia's bankruptcy will be easier to inventory. Including allegations of corruption that may have contributed to the cause so that it can be clearly identified.

"So it will be easier to do an inventory of problems later, on the contrary if there is corruption within Garuda we will know it clearly and brightly," he said.

Regarding efforts to rescue Garuda Indonesia carried out by the government through the Ministry of SOEs, said Faisol, as long as it is in accordance with applicable laws and legal provisions, Commission VI of the DPR RI will continue to support it.

"Basically, we, Commission VI of the DPR, fully support efforts to save Garuda Indonesia airline, as long as the efforts are correct and in accordance with applicable laws and legal provisions," he said.

Faisol Riza confirmed that in the near future Commission VI of the DPR RI will summon the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir and the Directors of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk to find out Garuda's condition.

Including, continued Faisol, specifically discussing the threat of bankruptcy experienced by BUMN Garuda Indonesia over the swelling of debt from Rp. 20 trillion to Rp. 70 trillion.

"We have arranged a meeting agenda in the near future, to discuss it by presenting directly the Minister of BUMN and the Board of Directors of PT Garuda Indonesia," he said.
