JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), won the Main Award for the Logistics Transportation Sector: Transition Towards Green Shipping at the IDX Channel ESG Awards 2025.

This award is an acknowledgment of PIS' consistent efforts in encouraging the transition to green shipping, through various strategic initiatives that are in line with international standards. Among other things, PIS has implemented environmentally friendly technology, increased operational energy efficiency, and carried out fleet rejuvenation that meets the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.

"Transition to green shipping is part of our long-term strategy to become a more sustainable and globally competitive logistics maritime company. We also believe the importance of maintaining a balance between operations and social and environmental responsibilities in order to provide more benefits to the community," said PIS Vega Pita's Corporate Secretary in a statement to the media, Friday, August 18.

As the main actor in national energy logistics, he continued, PIS is also actively exploring and implementing digitalization-based technology, such as the use of fleet management systems and real-time monitoring to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

In addition, PIS is also exploring the development of low-emission fuel vessels, such as LNG and biofuels, as part of the roadmap towards a greener and more efficient fleet.

For information, more than half of the total ships operated by PIS have used biofuels. A total of 6 ships in the PIS fleet have also used LPG and LNG as alternative fuels.

In addition, 40 ships in the PIS fleet have been equipped with energy-saving devices that can increase ship fuel efficiency by between 3-20 percent. PIS has also implemented comprehensive engine power restrictions and shipping management to reduce emissions.

This commitment contributed to reducing carbon emissions by 51,357 tons of CO2, or 47 percent above the annual target. For these various sustainability initiatives, PIS obtained MSCI ESG Provisional Rating BBB, the highest score in the current national maritime industry.

This achievement also emphasizes PIS' consistency in maintaining a balance between business performance and environmental responsibility.
