Kebut Connectivity, PU Ministry Speeds Up Bridge and Road Repairs in Aceh

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to accelerate bridge and road repair projects in Aceh Province. This step is taken to restore regional connectivity which was paralyzed due to natural disasters, as well as to ensure that the logistics route is back to normal.

PU Minister, Dody Hanggodo, emphasized that the government is fully committed to maintaining the stability of national roads in Aceh, especially on disaster-affected sections that require emergency handling.

"Improvements are being made so that the bridge can be safely passed again, so that community connectivity and logistics distribution are maintained. Community safety is our top priority," said Dody Hanggodo in Jakarta, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

This permanent handling is directly commanded by the Ministry of PU through the National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) Aceh. This project is expected to encourage the wheel of regional economic growth.

Significant Progress of 3 Major Bridges in Aceh

Until the beginning of July 2026, the Ministry of PU noted positive developments in three major bridge projects that had been damaged:

Lawe Mengkudu I Bridge (South Aceh) Progress: 83.72% (as of early July 2026). Function: Connecting the South Aceh Regency area to Gayo Lues. Status: The old bridge damaged by the disaster has been completely dismantled and replaced with a new, more robust construction for long-term mobility.Lumut Bridge (Central Aceh) Progress: 73.80% (as of early July 2026). Work Focus: Completion of stone pairs on the left and right sides of the approach road (oprit) of the bridge. The function of this structure is as a safety to increase the stability of the construction and protect the road body. Ulee Langa Bridge (North Aceh) Progress: 72.79% (as of July 1, 2026). Work Focus: Currently entering the post-disaster phase which includes the concrete curing process as well as the fabrication of steel plate steps to complete the construction.

Improvement of the Logistics Line in the West, East, and Central Crossings

In addition to bridges, Minister Dody added that the PU Ministry also carried out permanent handling of a number of national road sections in Aceh which are divided into three main corridors:

East Cross Corridor: Handling is carried out on 13 national roads. These include the Beureunuen-Batas Pidie Jaya, Meureudu-Bireuen, Peureulak-Langsa, to Kuala Simpang-Batas North Sumatra. West Cross Corridor: The focus of the work is directed at two main sections, namely Genting Gerbang-Celala-Batas Aceh Tengah/Nagan Raya, and Batas Aceh Tengah/Nagan Raya-Lhokseumot-Jeuram. Central Cross Corridor: A total of 13 bridges and 322 landslide points have now been successfully handled functionally.

Of the 13 bridges in the Central Cross, 10 of them are targeted to be completed permanently this year. The location is spread from the Central Aceh, Gayo Lues, South Aceh, to Bener Meriah.

In order to anticipate similar disasters in the future, this project not only repairs roads and bridges, but also is equipped with slope reinforcement and river banks to minimize the risk of landslides and erosion.
