JAKARTA - The Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) revealed that rice producers asked for the price of premium rice to be reduced by Rp1,000 per 5 kilograms (kg).
This request arose in conjunction with the case of mixed rice which was being stirred up in the community.
"Since yesterday, the producers have written to us to reduce the selling price from Rp74,500 per 5 kg, it has decreased by Rp1,000 per 5 kg, so it has decreased by Rp200 per kg, so the HET at this time is Rp73,500 per 5 kg," said Solihin, at the Ministry of Trade, Central Jakarta, Thursday, July 17.
When asked whether the decline was carried out related to the mixed rice case, Solihin admitted that he could not confirm it. He said his party only received the direction from the producer.
"We don't know, it's us who (asked) to reduce it, not us. If we correct the price, we have started yesterday," he explained.
In addition, Solihin also emphasized that retailers do not produce rice. He said the rice circulating in retail is the production of rice producers who have collaborated with retailers.
Furthermore, Solihin said, retail only sells final goods to consumers, provided that the incoming rice products are premium quality.
"With this, we ask suppliers, principals, whatever suppliers he has to make a statement. Because in our work contract to suppliers, it is clear that what we buy is premium rice," he explained.
