Bahlil Affirms 50 Percent Discount Of Electricity Tariffs Not Extended

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized that the provision of a 50 percent discount for electricity rates for household customers of PT PLN (Persero) with a power of up to 2,200 VA, was not extended for more than two months.

Bahlil's statement relates to the provision of a 50 percent discount to household customers of PT PLN (Persero) with a power of 450 VA, 900 VA, 1,300 VA, and 2,200 VA which is valid for two months, namely January and February 2025.

"It's not extended, it's only two months," said Bahlil when met at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 23.

In a press statement compiled, the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Jisman P. Hutajulu explained that the 50 percent discount on electricity costs to household customers of PT PLN (Persero) with electricity installed power up to a power of 2,200 VA targets 81.42 million customers.

This is in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 348.K/TL.01/MEM.L/2024 concerning the Discount of Electricity Costs for Household Consumers of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) which is valid for two months, namely January and February 2025.

The electricity cost discount is carried out automatically through the PLN system. Postpaid customers get a 50 percent discount from the electricity cost account for usage in January 2025 (which will be paid in February 2025) and for usage in February 2025 (which will be paid in an account in March 2025).

Meanwhile, prepaid customers are given a direct discount when purchasing electricity tokens in January and February 2025, so that people can simply pay a token price of half the previous month's purchase to get the same kWh.

The provision of a 50 percent electricity discount for two months, namely in January 2025, is an effort to protect people's purchasing power due to the increase in VAT on luxury goods to 12 percent by 2025.

However, PLN customers with a power of 3,500'6,600 VA, said Sri Mulyani, will still be subject to VAT of 12 percent.
