PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) said the operation of the Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in Kadujaya Village, Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency, West Java, could reduce carbon emissions by 415,800 tons per year.

PLN Indonesia Power President Director Edwin Nugraha Putra in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 21, said that the Jatigede hydropower plant is the target of increasing the renewable energy mix by 23 percent by 2025 and supporting net zero emissions by 2060.

The Jatigede hydropower project with a capacity of 2x55 MW, which utilizes Jatigede reservoir water and is the second largest in Indonesia, has been initiated by its builder since 1963 and began construction in 2015.

"PLTA Jatigede is one of the strategic electrical projects operated by PLN Indonesia Power to realize self-sufficiency in energy," said Edwin, quoted by Antara.

The Jatigede hydropower plant is not only a producer of clean energy, but also a peaker plant, which ensures the reliability of electricity supply in Indonesia, so that it can support the realization of energy self-sufficiency.

"The presence of the Jatigede hydropower plant also strengthens PLN Indonesia Power's commitment to supporting the clean energy transition and the success of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, caring for Indonesia's natural wealth as an energy source to encourage the nation's independence through energy self-sufficiency," said Edwin.

PLN Indonesia Power officially operates the Jatigede hydropower plant with a capacity of 2x55 MW, which is a national strategic project (PSN), Monday (20/1/2025).

Prabowo continued that energy is a very vital sector, so Indonesia must master and be able to manage it.

"I think with our abilities, we will go to self-sufficiency in energy in the not long time," he said.

In the same place, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia in his report said that as many as 26 power plants spread across 18 provinces and inaugurated President Prabowo, the majority used clean energy.

"Mr. President, we also report that the inauguration this time has 26 total generators of 3.2 GW and this is spread across 18 provinces. Of the total 3.2 GW, 89 percent of it is clean energy," he said.
