Garuda Boss Reveals Target Next Year: Add 15-20 Aircraft

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) National Aviation Airlines plans to add 15-20 aircraft by 2025.

"Our target is that by 2025 we will add more aircraft, 15-20 more aircraft. Of course this requires cooperation, communication, and coordination with related ministries," said Garuda Indonesia President Director, Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, December 6.

According to the Military Commander, Garuda Indonesia does need to increase the number of aircraft.

"We do need to increase the number of aircraft, and we convey good news that at Garuda Indonesia one aircraft will arrive where it is currently in the process of painting and also refurbishment of aircraft interior," he said.

Then, he continued, it is planned that at the end of this month there will also be one more plane, and two aircraft later in January next year.

For information, SOE Minister Erick Thohir stated that his party is open to collaborating with Boeing regarding the increase in the number of aircraft for state-owned airlines such as Garuda Indonesia.

According to him, the solution to increase the number of aircraft fleets is to collaborate with global aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, aircraft manufacturers from Russia or China's COMAC.

Erick said that it is impossible for Indonesia to be constrained by the same number of aircraft in 10 years, considering that this is very dangerous because Indonesia itself is an archipelagic country.

He and the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi will continue to encourage various innovations related to the increase in the number of commercial aircraft fleets.

He and the Minister of Transportation will also talk with the Minister of Transportation to the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming / Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani about whether this investment can be facilitated in the future due to the issue of inadequate number of aircraft.

Previously, SOE Minister Erick Thohir received a visit from the United States Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala S Lakhdhir and a delegation from the private sector of the United States at the Ministry of SOEs, Thursday, December 5, 2024.

The private American companies that attended the meeting with Erick Thohir were like aircraft company Boeing and technology company Intel.

This meeting follows up on the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States bilaterally.
