SURABAYA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said his party was pushing for new investment from Apple to be realized in the form of factory construction.
This was revealed by Minister of Industry Agus when asked for a response from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) regarding the investment request of 1 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 15.95 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 15,957) which was recently submitted by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
"God willing, they will take the first scheme, namely investment in production facilities or factories in Indonesia. They have held initial talks with the Ministry of Investment and their planned investment in the future is around 1 billion US dollars," Agus said when met by VOI after the Industrial Festival 3 agenda in Surabaya, East Java, Wednesday, December 4.
Agus admitted that he continues to coordinate intensively with the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Perkasa Roeslani for Apple to realize the investment.
"That will be the scheme, what the technique will be, we will direct it. Of course for us, the important thing is that 1 billion US dollars, which they have verbally committed through the Minister of Investment, can be realized," said Agus.
According to Agus, the investment commitment of around Rp. 15.95 trillion is one of the conditions that must be met by Apple so that iPhone 16 products can be sold in Indonesia.
"At least the initial discussion submitted by Apple to the Ministry of Investment is a good step not only for Indonesia, but also for Apple. So that Apple can do its business faster in Indonesia," said Agus.
"Otherwise, right, we will not issue a distribution permit (iPhone 16)," he continued.
When asked further about when the investment realization could be carried out, Agus said, his party was still waiting for the entry of proposals from Apple Inc through the Ministry of Investment.
"I'm waiting for Mr. Rosan, because I'm intensively with Mr. Rosan, in fact, this lunch we spoke (over) the phone," he added.
Previously, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Perkasa Roeslani conveyed the latest developments regarding investment from an electronics company from the United States (US), Apple, in Indonesia.
Rosan's explanation was conveyed when answering a number of questions from members of Commission XII DPR RI regarding Apple's investment.
According to him, in general Apple's investment in Indonesia is still very small.
Therefore, when meeting with Apple recently, Rosan asked for a new investment commitment of US$1 billion or equivalent to Rp15.95 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,957).

He also asked for the investment commitment in the form of a written statement from Apple.
"Regarding that Apple is frankly their investment, it is still small in us, very small. So, I ask God willing, for the first phase, I will get a written statement. I ask them to invest 1 billion US dollars for the first stage," said Rosan during a working meeting with Commission XII DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, as reported by Commission XII's official YouTube broadcast on Wednesday, December 4.
"So, I ask them to implement a written statement," he continued.
