Ministry Of Transportation Discounts 50 Percent Airport Taxes, Airplane Ticket Prices Can Drop?

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) will provide airport tax discounts during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 periods. This discount is given to the Scheduled Commercial Air Transport Business Entity which operates to serve routes to airports managed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The provisions for giving this discount are contained in the Service Note document Number 1262/KUM/ND/2024. The document was signed on November 22.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation Elba Damhuri explained that the type of airport service that received a 50 percent PNBP tariff discount consisted of aircraft passenger services (PJP2U) and landing service services, placement, aircraft storage (PJP4U).

"Then regarding the reduction in air service rates, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia and all UPBU (Band Airport Service Units) under the auspices of the Ministry of Transportation, will provide support for reducing PJP2U rates to 50 percent and PJP4U rates to 50 percent," he said in an official statement, written Thursday, November 28.

Even so, Elba said PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia still needs confirmation from the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to be able to include two large airports, namely Soekarno-Hatta Internasinal Airport (CGK) and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS).

Furthermore, Elba said that the airline also agreed to provide an 8 percent fuel surcharge jet discount to 2 percent and a 5 percent discount propeller to 20 percent.

"Meanwhile, AirNav will provide advanced and extended services during the Nataru period to support longer operating hours according to airline needs," he explained.

Based on the analysis and calculations carried out, said Elba, the imposition of a discount fuel charge jet of 8 percent to 2 percent, and a deployer discount of 5 percent to 20 percent, a PJP2U discount of 50 percent and a 50 percent PJP4U, and also considering flight routes and volume, on a weighted average there will be a decrease in flight ticket rates of around 10 percent.

"The analysis and calculation of the ticket price reduction (the) has not included VAT incentives, considering that this is the authority of the Ministry of Finance," he said.

Regarding the price of airplane tickets, Elba said the reduction in air transport flight fares was a direct direction of President Prabowo Subianto to help the community in order to reduce the burden on ticket prices at all airports in Indonesia.

"Yesterday, President Prabowo held a meeting with the Minister of Transportation and a number of Ministers at the Merdeka Palace to discuss the reduction in aircraft ticket prices during the Nataru period. As a result, the Government agreed to lower the ticket price for domestic flights by 10 percent during Nataru, at all airports in Indonesia," said Elba.

The tariff adjustment itself will take effect for 16 days during the Nataru 2024/2025 period, from 19 December 2024 to 3 January 2025 for tickets that have not been sold.

"For passengers who have purchased tickets for flights during that period, incentives can be given according to the policies of each airline if possible," said Elba.
