Will Be A Government Agency, What Is The Fate Of Bulog's Commercial Business?

JAKARTA - The government plans to return the role of Perum Bulog to a government agency.

That way, Bulog will not hold the status of a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) anymore. Including not being able to run a business commercially.

Then, what is the fate of the commercial business that has built Bulog?

Bulog President Director Wahyu Suparyono said the fate of Bulog's commercial business had not been discussed.

He said that his party was still drafting the concept of institutional transformation to be outlined in the Presidential Decree (Keppres).

"I think that's the next discussion. But what is certain is Bulog as a stabilizer, closer to farmers, meaning that we really provide services to the public and to farmers," he said after a limited coordination meeting (Rakortas) on food at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Jakarta, Thursday, November 21.

Wahyu explained that Bulog would later return to being 52 years ago. At that time, his status was a government agency.

Even so, he considered, this step is not a form of setback.

Instead of experiencing setbacks, Wahyu assessed that the step to restore the function of Bulog as a government agency actually accelerated the stabilization of food prices.

"Oh no (not a setback), another. Now it's been a long time, now it will be fast," said Wahyu.

By becoming a body under the President, he said, Bulog will later receive the allocation of the National Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) from the government.

However, Wahyu emphasized that the allocation could not be obtained by Bulog in the 2025 State Budget. This is because the government has set the 2025 RAPBN with the DPR.

"Later on, we will ask the state budget for the concept. From the state budget there, as stabilization, we will carry out a stabilization function, yes, buy from sugar farmers, join farmers," he explained.
