"This phenomenon occurs when middle-income countries stagnate and have difficulty transitioning to high-income status," said Zainudin, quoted on Thursday, November 21.

"One of the main factors that contribute to the middle income trap is the insufficiency of the social security system which is able to support inclusive and sustainable growth," he added.

"Through discussions involving the government, private sector, academics, and civil society organizations, concrete steps are expected to be identified to strengthen the social security system, increase economic competitiveness, and create fairer opportunities for all levels of society," explained Zainudin.

SOCIAL SECURITY SUMMIT 2024 is scheduled to be opened by President Prabowo Subianto, and was followed by a speech from the President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Anggoro Eko Cahyo.
