Ministry of Transportation Forms Special Team to Monitor Congestion Points and Vehicle Congestion During Christmas and New Year

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Transportation (Wamenhub) Suntana stated that the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has formed a special team to monitor readiness at crucial transportation points ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays.

"Well, we have formed a team to visit those spots (points where traffic jams and congestion often occur)," said Suntana as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 14.

He said that the team was formed to ensure the smoothness and safety of people's travel during the holiday season which is often marked by increased traffic flow.

The special team will focus on a number of locations that are predicted to experience a spike in vehicle flow, such as the Cikampek toll road and several other locations where traffic jams and incidents often occur. Monitoring is carried out so that traffic problems that are often complained about can be anticipated and minimized.

In addition to toll roads, the team also conducts checks at ports that usually experience congestion, such as the Merak-Bakauheni and Ketapang-Gilimanuk Ports. Supervision at the port aims to overcome the problem of queues and vehicle congestion that often occurs during long holidays.

"Checks were carried out at the Merak-Bakauheni Port, then at Ketapang-Gilimanuk and several other points that are estimated based on data every year there are traffic problems, congestion, accidents, congestion and others," he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Transportation has also collaborated with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives which fully supports the monitoring activities.

"We are fully supported by friends from Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives because friends from Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives accompany us and are present. Together with them, I checked on the train, at (the Port) of Bakauheni," he explained.

Suntana expressed his hope that with intensive monitoring and community support, the implementation of Christmas and New Year transportation can take place safely and comfortably. He hopes that the public can enjoy the holidays safely without significant obstacles on the transportation route.

Although there have been intensive preparations, the Deputy Minister of Transportation also emphasized the importance of public participation in complying with driving regulations. Public participation in obeying traffic safety rules is very important to minimize the potential for accidents and obstacles on the road.

"But I really need broad participation from the public. The public please pay more attention to driving rules, safety rules," said the Deputy Minister of Transportation.

Suntana reminded drivers not to ignore safety just because they are in a hurry or for other urgent reasons.

Such attitudes can pose risks to oneself and others on the road, so the public is urged to be more responsible.

"So once again, I beg the Indonesian people that I am proud of, that I love, let's all discipline ourselves in traffic rules on the highway," said the Deputy Minister of Transportation.
