JAKARTA - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia successfully achieved the target of collecting zakat (excluding deposits) of IDR 1 trillion in the third quarter of 2024, up from the previous year which reached IDR 882 billion.

"Alhamdulillah, this is an extraordinary achievement. The increasing number of collection cannot be separated from comprehensive performance ranging from collection to zakat distribution which is beneficial for zakat or mustahik recipients," said Chairman of the Indonesian National Baznas Noor Achmad through a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday 2 November.

Noor said this result was the fruit of the Indonesian people's trust in distributing zakat, infaq, and alms, so that more and more underprivileged people would receive benefits.

"Alhamdulillah, we get public trust. We always try to develop mature programs, starting from planning, collection, to distribution, we organize them well and transparently. That way, what is channeled through Baznas can be accounted for," he said.

Noor hopes that this result will trigger Baznas' enthusiasm to continue to collect donations from the Indonesian people, where Baznas targets to raise total funds, including donations and alms of IDR 41 trillion by 2024.

"Meanwhile, in 2025, Baznas is targeting IDR 50 trillion. This achievement also strengthens distribution to people who are entitled to receive the benefits of zakat," he said.

Noor revealed that zakat funds collected through Baznas were channeled to various community empowerment programs, such as scholarships, santripreneurs, MSME financing, microfinance, and so on.

"These empowerment programs can change the status of the community, which initially received benefits to beneficiaries," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian Baznas for Collection, Rizaludin Kurniawan, said that this success could not be separated from a number of strategies, such as strengthening zakat literacy for the community, optimizing fundraising work, strengthening zakat-giving services, and digitizing for easy access and transparency of zakat governance.

"Baznas juga memaksimalkan branding lembaga untuk membangun citra positif dan meningkatkan kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap Baznas sebagai lembaga pengelola zakat yang profesional," tutur Rizaludin Kurniawan.
