JAKARTA - The Indonesian Carbon Exchange or Carbon IDX marks a year of operation on September 26, 2024.

IDX Carbon recorded an increase in the number of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificates (SPE-GRK) traded from 459,953 tons of CO2e to 613,894 tons of CO2e, with transaction values increasing from Rp29.21 billion to Rp37.06 billion, since it first operated, namely, September 26, 2023.

IDX President Director Iman Rachman said, of the total volume of transactions, a total of 420,029 tons of CO2e had been used or carried out by retirement.

"We should be optimistic about this achievement considering that in the midst of the challenges of carbon trading experienced by various countries, the accumulation of transaction volume is still higher than other carbon exchanges in the same age as the Malaysian and Japanese Carbon Exchanges," he said in his remarks at the One Year Commemoration of the Indonesian Carbon Exchange, Thursday, October 3.

Iman also reported that during the year of operation, there are currently 3 (three) SPE-GRK projects that have been recorded at IDXCarbon, namely the Pertamina Geothermal Lahendong project, PLTGU in Muara Karang owned by PLN, and PLTM on Mount Wugul belonging to the PLN group.

With the presence of these projects, the carbon unit recorded grew from 842,950 tons of CO2e on September 26, 2023 to 1,777,141 tons of CO2e on September 26, 2024, with the total number of carbon units available after retention of 1,357,112 tons of CO2e.

"In the same period, the number of service users also grew quite significantly from only 16 service users on the launch day to 81 service users," said Iman.
