Prabowo Has The Ambition To Build A Giant Sea Embankment, Minister Basuki Responds Like This

JAKARTA - Elected President Prabowo Subianto has big aspirations to build a giant sea wall embankment or Giant sea wall.

In its grand plan, this infrastructure will stretch from Jakarta to Gresik, East Java.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that his party had previously realized a similar project, namely the giant embankment on the coast of Jakarta or the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD).

Basuki explained that NCICD's giant sea wall has priority to build North Jakarta first, including by improving the community sanitation system.

PUPR also has designs and data for the construction of a giant sea wall.

Reflecting on this, Basuki expressed his readiness to help realize the giant sea wall in the next government through this data.

"With the new government (if he wants to build up to Gresik), he has to decide. But, we are ready with the data, we have filled the distribution of the depth of the sea," said Basuki, written on Tuesday, September 10.

The NCICD project itself has not yet been fully realized.

In fact, this project is projected to be able to help control tidal flooding. This project is designed by cooperating with a number of foreign parties, with an estimated cost of IDR 90 trillion.

"We have designed it with Korea and the Netherlands. Our Giant sea wall is from Bekasi to Tangerang, approximately (development budget) of IDR 90 trillion," he said.

In addition to the construction of a giant sea embankment, Basuki assessed, it is also necessary to be accompanied by sanitation projects in order to overcome tidal flooding on the coast of Java Island.

According to him, the sanitation system in parts of the northern coast (Pantura) of Java was immediately channeled into the river. Thus, the waste can directly flow to the coastal area and be blocked by giant sea wall.

"If small rivers are stuck with this (giant sea wall), sanitation is not good (Pantura) to be septic tanks," said Basuki.

"So, the giant sea wall according to the NCICD concept is an environment mediation program to overcome land subsidence in Jakarta through water procurement from the Jatiluhur and Karian (Bandung). Then, stop using groundwater, improve sanitation, then make a giant sea wall," he added.
