JAKARTA - Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani revealed the reason why the car company owned by Elon Musk, Tesla, canceled setting up factories in Indonesia.

According to Rosan, Tesla's cancellation will invest because Indonesia is not fully ready with a green energy ecosystem. Therefore, Rosan said Tesla chose to shift plans to build factories in other countries.

"Incidentally, I directly involved in talks with Tesla. One of the reasons is that they transferred their investment, not to us, because they said that as EV car producers, of course, they wanted everything to be clean, their terms," said Rosan in a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, quoted Wednesday, September 4.

Rosan said that energy sources in Indonesian industrial areas still use fossils, this is not in line with Tesla's vision.

The vision carried by Elon Musk's company is to create the most attractive and efficient transportation in the world without sacrificing this subscription. Meanwhile, the company's mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

"If they enter our industrial area, but the energy is still a fuel fossil, a base energy like a coal, it's not in line with their vision," he said.

Regarding the green ecosystem in Indonesia, Rosan admits that he is still far behind when compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. For example, he said, companies in Sungapura that invest in Vietnam have implemented clean energy sources.

"Company in Singapore, Sembcorp, only from Sembcorp already has 13 (solar cells) in Vietnam, the economic zone in Vietnam. He will reopen to 18 within the next 2-3 months," he explained.

Rosan said that many foreign investors are asking for investment in Indonesia. However, they want Indonesia to also use clean energy sources according to the company's vision.

Therefore, according to Rosan, building a clean energy ecosystem or new renewable energy (EBT) needs to be accelerated. He said this step was also to attract investment into Indonesia.

Because of the demands of investors as well. The investors are also required to be carbon neutral. We must also go that way," he said.

"Because the demand is like that. That's what I see in many countries. ASEAN is our neighboring country. Whether it's in Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand. They push there, so investors also want to enter the industrial area," he continued.
