Increase Oil And Gas Reserves, Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Strengthens Oil And Gas Cooperation With China

JAKARTA - In order to increase reserves and production of oil and gas in the country, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has intensified cooperation with companies from China. This collaboration is a follow-up to the visit of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif to China some time ago.

Director of Upstream Oil and Gas Business Development of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ariana Soemanto, in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, said that the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, SKK Migas, and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi collaborated to encourage technology and various efforts to increase reserves and oil and gas production from China to be implemented in Indonesia.

"Of the five focuses of exploration areas in eastern Indonesia, there are two areas, namely Buton and Timor, which have the participation of Chinese oil and gas companies, namely Sinopec and Petrochina. The two areas have been designated as joint study areas in June 2024. After the joint study is completed, the direct offer for the oil and gas working area (WK), the determination of the WK winner, and oil and gas exploration," he said while in Batang, Central Java, Friday, July 26.

In addition, from the auction of five oil and gas blocks whose offerings were opened at the Indonesia Petroleum Association (IPA) in May 2024, there was also the participation of Chinese companies.

"Later, it will be announced in due course. Joint study and auction of this oil and gas block is part of a strategy for the discovery of oil and gas reserves," Ariana was quoted as saying by ANTARA.

Meanwhile, related to increased production, one of the Chinese companies, namely Sinopec, is in the process of collaborating with PT Pertamina (Persero) for the application of technology and efforts to increase production in five Pertamina oil and gas field candidates.

Ariana melanjutkan opsi mekanismenya melalui kerja sama operasi (KSO) model baru atau permodifikasi antara Pertamina dan Sinopec, yang berdasarkan evaluasi merupakan skema yang lebih cepat,fleksi, dan tetap menarik.

Currently, according to him, his status is in the process of obtaining an oil and gas data opening permit, then a confidence agreement (CA) between Pertamina-Sinopec.

Furthermore, the delivery of the Sinopec Technical Team for studies to five Pertamina fields in order to determine the field and technology options that will be applied per field.

"This is in accordance with the direction of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources that the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, SKK Migas, and Pertamina should collaborate to encourage faster cooperation with this Chinese company," said Ariana again.
