JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) said that the fishermen's exchange rate (NTN) until the first semester of 2024 had only reached 101.62. This figure has not yet reached the government's target, which is 108 this year.

Director of Fishing Vessels and Fish Fishing Equipment Mochamad Idnillah said that NTN really depends on the price of fishery products produced by fishermen compared to their expenses.

"The exchange rate for fishermen this semester has reached 101.62 and the target for 2024 is 108 for NTN," he said at a press conference for the performance of KKP Semester I in Jakarta, Friday, July 26.

Mochamad did not deny that in the last few months the fish price had fallen due to oversupply in several fishing areas. "In the last few months, the fish price has been low due to oversupply," he said.

Even so, his party claims that currently the volume of supply is approaching normal. Thus, fish also experienced price improvements in the market.

"Then over time, prices (fish) have started to normal because compared to the current supply, starting to move to normal volume," he said.

Furthermore, he said, the KKP noted that capture fisheries production as of July 26, 2024 had reached 111 percent or the equivalent of 3.34 million tons.

The increase in production was driven by increased production at 12 ports of the central Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) and 66 regional UPTs.

"This is related to improving the recording system in each port, thereby optimizing the recording of the catch made by fishermen," he said.
