KKP: Import Of Indonesian Fishery Products In Declining Trends

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) revealed that imports of fishery products carried out by Indonesia until June 2024 recorded a downward trend. This indicates that dependence on foreign products has begun to shift with the use of raw materials from within the country. "The good news is that this decline (import) so we have started many substitutions with various (materials) and I think this is quite encouraging in the fisheries sector," said Expert Staff of the Minister for Ecology and Marine Resources of KKP Hendra Yusran Siry in a press conference held in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, July 24. Hendra revealed, salmon imports to June were recorded at US$36.55 million or a decrease of 7.2 percent compared to the previous year (yoy). Imports of Makalel types also recorded a decrease of 63.8 percent with a value of US$30.13 million, followed by Rajungan, down by 21.6 percent with a value of US$ 24.5 million. Furthermore, cod fish also experienced a decrease in imports of 10.9 percent with a value of 16.42 jua US dollars, as well as fish flour which is still imported with a value of 21.83 million US dollars. He admitted that the five commodities had to still be imported because these fishery products could not be replaced with other types.

However, specifically for fish flour, the KKP has begun to conduct trials to meet domestic fish flour needs by testing the manufacture of fish flour at a factory in Aceh. With the decline in imports of fishery products from abroad, he welcomes this and strives so that domestic fisheries and marine products can be optimized.
