3 Kg Elpiji Subsidy Will Be Replaced With Cash, Starting To Apply 2026

JAKARTA - Commission VII of the DPR RI proposed the government to replace the 3 kilograms (kg) LPG subsidy distribution scheme from product to cash giving to the public.

Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Eddy Soeparno said that the replacement of the scheme is so that the subsidies provided by the government to residents are more targeted.

"There is also no limit and everyone can buy and not necessarily use the household. It can also be entrusted with those who are not entitled. We propose that purchases be made directly to the recipients but through a subsidy scheme transferred to those who have entered the DTKS who are entitled," said Eddy in Energy Corner, Tuesday, July 9.

Eddy said, DTKS is still in the process of being refined, so it is estimated that changes in the distribution of 3 kg LPG subsidies could occur in 2026.

"That is being prepared, and we hope that the provision of susbidies to the community will automatically reduce the volume of the use of 3 kg LPG which is also used by various groups of people," continued Eddy.

Eddy said, so far the volume of 3 kg LPG usage has continued to increase from year to year. For example, in 2024, it is estimated at 8.02 million tons.

Meanwhile, by 2025, it is estimated that it will reach 8.17 million tons.

With this scheme, he said, it is hoped that there will be a decrease in the volume of 3 kg LPG distribution.
