PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) has agreed to cooperate with the Banyumas Regency Government and PT Sinergi Energi Utama in processing waste in Banyumas Regency as raw materials for co-firing biomass.

This agreement was signed by the Banyumas Regent, Hanung Cahyo Saputro, President Director of PT Sinar Energi Utama and the Director of Biomass of PLN EPI Antonius Aris Sudjatmiko on Tuesday 2 July in South Jakarta.

Banyumas Regent Hanung Cahyo Saputro revealed that Banyumas has its own way of managing waste where the Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) in Banyumas is equipped with a waste sorting machine between organic and inorganic waste managed by the Community Self-Help Group (KSM) with the final results in the form of compost, paving, brick, plastic seeds, and also organic waste porridge as raw material for biomass.

"These various final results of waste really help the operational costs of KSM and PAD in the form of retribution. For this reason, the Banyumas Regency Government welcomes this collaboration, where PLN EPI will utilize waste porridge, which is a waste processing product in Banyumas, as a biomass for Cofiring PLTU," said Hanung in a statement to the media, Friday, July 5.

Acting as an offtaker, the President Director of PT Sinar Energi Utama, Taufiqqullah Ande, is ready to carry out further processing so that the waste porridge meets the requirements for biomass for cofiring at PLTU.

"This will both benefit all parties, namely reduced Banyumas waste, reducing emissions from piles of garbage, improving the local economy and increasing the provision of biomass by PLN EPI," Ande continued.

President Director of PLN EPI Iwan Agung Firstantara emphasized that the company is fully committed to achieving the energy transition through the addition of local resource-based New Energy Utilization (EBT). One of them is by processing waste which so far continues to be a problem in Regency/City to be processed into biomass co-firing.

"We really appreciate this synergy step, the continued process of one of the processed waste products into biomass will certainly have a double role that not only deals with waste problems but is also able to reduce emissions on both sides, namely from piles of garbage and from reducing the portion of coal in PLTU," said Iwan Agung.

Iwan emphasized that efforts to utilize waste processing into biomass will continue to be synergized by the company together with the Regional Government which has carried out waste processing.

Iwan Agung added that this joint agreement aims to integrate the management of potential waste processing products into existing biomass effectively and efficiently. The important thing is that the parties can focus on supporting regional development to improve community welfare and environmental sustainability.

In this agreement, PLN EPI as an integrator and an environmentally friendly primary energy aggregator, is ready to absorb the results of waste processing into biomass run by the Banyumas Regency Government and PT Sinergi Energi Utama. The success of this agreement is expected to be a model that will be replicated in various other locations so as to further increase the contribution in the achievement of NZE," concluded Iwan.
