Ahead Of 10 Years Of Jokowi's Leadership, The Indonesian Toll Road Increases By 2,113 Km

JAKARTA - Ahead of the 10th anniversary of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)'s leadership, the total length of expressways or toll roads owned by Indonesia has increased to 2,113 kilometers (km).

The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of PUPR noted that from 1978 to mid-2024 or precisely 4 months before the end of Jokowi's leadership, 73 toll roads had been operating for a total length of 2,893 km.

"From 1978 to mid-2024, the total length of toll roads in Indonesia has reached 2,893 km," wrote BPJT in an upload on its official Instagram @pupr_bpjt, quoted Monday, June 24.

This means that during almost 10 years of his leadership, President Jokowi's administration has built around 73 percent of the length of the toll roads currently owned by Indonesia.

"All toll roads operating are managed by 52 Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT) on 73 toll roads," he added.

The reason is, based on VOI records in 2022, for 40 years to 2014, the construction of the RI toll road was recorded at 780 km. Thus, since 2014 until now, the length of the toll roads built by Indonesia has reached 3 times that number.

As for October 2024, at least there is still one toll road that is targeted to be fully connected. This section is the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road which has a total length of 74.2 km.

Initially, the Sigli-Banda Aceh toll road worth IDR 16.5 trillion was targeted to be fully connected by June 2024. However, in its latest update, PT Hutama Karya (Persero) targets the toll road to be completed by the end of 2024.

In detail, the progress of the construction of the Sigli-Banda Aceh Toll Road Section I (Padang Tiji-Seulimeum) with a road length of 25 km until April 30, 2024, reached 84.77 percent, with land acquisition progress of 87.95 percent.

Meanwhile, the Sigli-Banda Aceh Section II-VI (Seulimum-Blang Bintang) Toll Road operates with an average traffic volume of 3,000 vehicles per day.

If the construction of the Sigli-Banda Aceh toll road can be completed until October 2024, Jokowi's portfolio to build the Indonesia toll road for 10 years will increase to 2,138 km.
