JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is completing the construction of the Gatot Subroto underpass in Medan City, North Sumatra.
PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said, until June 10, 2024, the construction progress had reached 48.85 percent with a scope of work covering the construction of a 80 cm thick wall diaphragm, the work of a concrete drill pole with a diameter of 800 mm and a cement concrete pavement using a 30-cm high ceiling.
The underpass development has been carried out by the Ministry of PUPR since September 26, 2023 and is targeted for completion this year.
"It is targeted to be completed on September 19, 2024, with the 2023-2024 State Budget cost of IDR 217.8 billion," said Basuki in his official statement, Friday, June 21.
The existence of the underpass has been highly anticipated by the public because it will unravel the congestion node due to traffic meetings from four directions, namely Jalan Gatot Subroto-Jalan Binjai Raya which is part of the national road segment in Medan City with Ring Road Road-Jalan Dormitory.
According to Basuki, the construction of Gatot Subroto underpass will increase the road capacity from the original two lanes to four lanes.
The Gatot Subroto Underpass was built 750 meters long by excavating the structure using the Hydraulic Grab engine for the diaphragm walls.
"With the construction of this underpass, it is hoped that the traffic flow from Medan City to Binjai or to the Medan-Tebing Tinggi Sumatra Cross route will not experience any obstacles or congestion," he said.
