JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said that the cement industry decarbonization roadmap will be implemented in 2025.

The plan is that the Ministry of Industry will strengthen the legality of the roadmap to become a Regulation of the Minister of Industry (Permenperin) at the same time. Thus, it can become the basis for cement producers in Indonesia to develop their respective decarbonization roadmaps.

"We hope that this roadmap can be completed in 2024-2025. So, it can be implemented in 2025-2050," said Director of Industry Semen, Ceramics and Processing of Non Metal Galian Materials at the Ministry of Industry Putu Nadi Astuti at a press conference at the Ministry of Industry's office, Tuesday, June 4.

He explained that in the roadmap, his party will regulate in detail the technical reduction in the carbon emissions of the cement industry starting from the time interval decarbonization target to the action plan to realize net zero emissions (NZE).

Later, there will be several strategic focuses that will be included in the roadmap, namely a reduction in the clinic's ratio to cement, a shift to alternative fuels, energy efficiency, innovative technology development and development of government policies that can support the NZE program.

Although the roadmap will only be implemented in 2025, Putu Nadi said, efforts to reduce emissions from the cement sector have been carried out by industry players, such as carrying out energy efficiency by using biomass energy and utilizing technology that helps decarbonize.

"The road map is needed by Indonesia because the cement sector is one of the industries contributing to carbon emissions which is quite large in the world," he said.
