JAKARTA - The contactless toll road transaction system or Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) will soon be implemented on a number of Indonesian toll roads. With the implementation of the new system, people are required to register on a special application called Cantas.

Policy regarding this is stated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 23 of 2024 of 2024 concerning Toll Roads signed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on May 20, 2024. Article 105 of the regulation states that vehicles that will pass through toll roads must register through the special MLFF application on smartphones, namely Cantas.

"When the contactless non-cash technology system has been implemented, Toll Road Users are required to register the motorized vehicle they use through the non-cash contactless technology system application approved by the Minister," the regulation reads.

However, the special application called Cantas is still not available on the AppStore or Play Store. Responding to this, the Director General of Highways of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Hedy Rahadian said that future developments were still needed.

Given, the implementation of the toll pay system without stopping will start gradually this year using the Single Lane Free Flow (SLFF) system using a barrier.

"The application actually already exists, the name is Cantas. Only later we need to adjust it to the development of the SLFF," Hedy told reporters at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday, May 28.

Hedy assessed that the application would enter the AppStore and Play Store after the implementation of the SLFF went on a predetermined toll road.

"Not yet, because later we will try it out first and this SLFF, right, the (talk) has not been completed," he said.

Previously, PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS) would be ready to implement a contactless toll transaction system or multi lane free flow (MLFF) this year.

The plan is that the implementation of the toll road payment system without touching will begin to be implemented in stages in October 2024 on the Bali Mandara Toll Road.

"RITS as the implementing enterprise (BUP) of the MLFF program is ready to implement the system according to the schedule targeted by the government, starting in the fourth quarter of this year," said PT RITS Attila Keszeg President Director in the Media Briefing & Talk Show "Driving Towards A Brighter Future: The Evolution of Indonesian Transportation For Accelerated Accessibility at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday, May 28.
