JAKARTA - The energy transition is a transition period from utilizing fossil energy sources to New Renewable Energy Sources (EBT) and cleaner. Currently, the Government is starting to implement policies for clean energy management that prioritize environmental sustainability. In the energy transition, the oil and gas sector is still needed.

Member of the BPH Committee Migas Saleh Abdurrahman said that the development of the energy sector in the energy transition era should not only be seen as a change from fossil energy to EBT, but must have a large and sustainable impact on life.

We have to look at the energy transition from perspective as our effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase added value, from low added value to high added value. From an exploitative understanding to efficiency of resource use. Thus, these resources can be enjoyed by our future generation," said Saleh, Monday, May 27.

Regarding the oil and gas sector, Saleh said, the trend of oil and gas use is projected to remain high along with the benefits of oil and gas, especially for transportation and industry.

"In the latest primary energy mix, the trend of using fossil energy remains strong. Where this sector still has to be developed and improved because this (oil and gas) is a source of acceptance, source of investment, part of everyday life, and part of job creation, of course with ongoing efforts," he said.

The development of oil and gas utilization in the energy transition is realized, among others, through the application of 35 percent Biodiesel fuel and Bioethenol in Pertamax Green 95 products which have begun to be marketed to the public.

"For natural gas in Indonesia with the discovery of large gas resources, we must be able to make the most of it. Not only for the chemical industry, but also for the transportation sector, households, and other productive sectors," he added.

Chairman of the Association of Renewable Oil and Gas Law (APHMET) Practitioners Didik Sasono Setyadi said that the role of oil and gas until 2050 cannot be ignored.

"BBM does not experience a sunset period, but we must create optimism for all parties so that the industry continues to run," he explained.

Meanwhile, PT. Pertamina (Persero) Vice President for Corporate Communications Fadjar Djoko Santoso also spoke about Indonesia's energy management through Trilemma Energy, namely Energy, Energy Justice, and Sustainability Energy.

Our strategy is to increase oil and gas production and refinery capacity, increase LPG production and substitution of gas networks, develop gas infrastructure, implement the right subsidy program, as well as initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," he explained.
