JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is increasing the availability of domestic milk supplies.
This is for the success of the free milk program initiated by Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that domestic milk supply has not been able to meet the needs of the Indonesian people.
Airlangga explained that currently the domestic milk supply comes from factories in East Java, especially the Malang and Blitar areas and the two factories have a total of around 10,000 cows.
"The problem is that now we have the number of dairy, one of which has 10,000 cows in East Java. There are two places in Malang and Blitar. That is the supply chain for domestic milk factories," Airlangga told the media crew at his office, Friday, May 17.
However, Airlangga admitted that the supply of milk from the two factories was not sufficient.
Therefore, the government imports milk from New Zealand and Australia to meet the needs of milk in the country.
"Our need is high, we still depend on imports from New Zealand and Australia. Of course we will see the growth of this industry again, yes, we hope to increase farmers from the community," he said.
Previously, Airlangga had a meeting with British Trade Minister The Rt. Hon. Greg Hands MP at the Office of the Department of Business and Trade.

Airlangga said at the meeting Minister Greg expected the trading of dairy products and their derivatives within the framework of JETCO which was still felt by problems in registration because it took a long time, apart from the implementation of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS).
He emphasized that Indonesia is in the middle of a deregulation that emphasizes an easier mechanism for registration of dairy products and their derivatives.
"This effort is to support the increase in demand for dairy products and their derivatives with the new government program, namely free milk for students," said Airlangga in his official statement.
