BPS Reveals That Nearly 10 Million Gen Z Indonesia Will Be Recorded Unemployed In 2023

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that in 2023 there will be almost 9.9 million young people between 15-24 years of age who are not active in productive activities or Youth not in education, employee, and training (NEET) in Indonesia.

The percentage of population aged 15-24 years with the status of NEET in Indonesia is around 22.25 percent as of August 2023 out of a total of 44.47 million young people between 15-24 years nationally. In addition, this percentage decreased by around 0.97 percent compared to the same period in August 2022.

BPS defines the 15-24-year-old youth to be included in the Not in Employment, Education and Training (NEET) category which is outside the education system, is not working, and is not currently under training. With the starttiu, young people classified in this category are not active.

Meanwhile, of the 9.9 million young people aged 15-24 years who are classified as NEET, there are 5.73 million or 26.54 percent who are female and 4.17 million or 18.21 percent of the male gender of the total population aged 15-24 years.

Meanwhile, based on residential areas, it was recorded that 5.2 million or 20.40 percent of young people live in urban areas and 4.6 million or 24.79 percent of young people live in rural areas that are classified as NEET categories.

Furthermore, if classified according to age there are 3.4 million or 15.53 percent who are 15-19 years old and there are 6.4 million or 28.91 percent who are 20-24 years old.

Meanwhile, the number of young people who are classified in the NEET category based on elementary school graduates is 28.54 percent, SMP is 11.39 percent, SMA is 29.05 percent, SMK is 27.66 percent, Diploma I / II / III / Academy is 23.79 percent, and Universities (S1 / S2 / S3) is 29.38 percent.
