JAKARTA - Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) will hold a welcoming and releasing 40 Bhikku to start a journey to Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java. The event is part of a series of 2024 Waisak celebrations.

The thidong is a spiritual or religious journey for the bhikku who is carried out on thousands of kilometers (km) to reflect on the noble properties of Buddhism.

InJourney Tourism Marketing and Program Director Maya Watono said the Bhikku welcoming and release ceremony was open to the public. So, the public can attend TMII on Tuesday, May 14 at 16.00 WIB.

"Only by buying a ticket to enter TMII, the public can also witness the welcoming of Bhikku and other interesting events as supporting activities," Maya said in an official statement, Monday, May 13.

Maya said as many as 40 Bhikkku would start their journey from Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) to Borobudur Temple Tourism Park, in Magelang, Central Java to celebrate Tri Suci Waisak 2568 BE Day. InJourney collaborated with all stakeholders to also prepare the welcoming and release of Bhikku this time.

"This welcoming event is a form of respect and support from the InJourney Group for Bhikkhu who will travel to Borobudur Temple in order to welcome Waisak 2024," he explained.

"We hope that the series of events from TMII to later at Borobudur Temple can run well, smoothly, and the Bhikku can finally carry out their worship solemnly," he continued.

Meanwhile, Director of Marketing and Business Development of InJourney Destination Management Hetty Herawati explained that TMII itself was chosen because it was a symbol of Indonesia's diversity.

Standing on an area of 150 hectares in East Jakarta, said Hetty, TMII displays the culture of 33 provinces in Indonesia in the form of miniature Indonesian islands on Archipelago Lake.
