JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki inaugurated the Biak People's Market (traditional) in Fandoi Village, Biak Numfor, Papua, today.

In his remarks, Teten appreciated the Biak Numfor Regional Government for implementing the revitalization of the people's market facilitated by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Assistance Task Fund.

"After the revitalization of the market becomes cleaner and more comfortable, we encourage the creation of economic revitalization where traders can increase their income," said Teten in a written statement, Tuesday, May 7.

"Including traders, they can get banking financing from People's Business Credit (KIR)," he continued.

Teten hopes that the existence of the Fandoi Biak People's Market must be managed with good management by cooperatives.

He said that people's markets or traditional markets should not be less competitive with modern retail markets or modern supermarkets that can enter remote areas of the country.

"People's markets must be a fun market. Markets must be like that, arranged and neatly made," he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Regent of Biak Numfor Sofia Bonsapia appreciated the market revitalization program from the Kemenkop UKM in his area.

"Our job is to maintain, maintain and improve the benefits for the community," he said.

Sofia also said that Biak is the safest and cleanest city in Papua.

"To travel, we also have many good and beautiful destinations," he added.
