PT PLN (Persero) is developing a Joint Innovation Center (JIC) with PT Huawei Tech Investment which will become one of the foundations for developing new electrical technology in the field of ICT.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo appreciated the progress and innovation made by JIC in responding to the digitalization needs faced by PLN since its inauguration in November 2023.

He views this collaboration as a milestone in how the global community is united in fighting the climate change crisis.

"This JIC is intended to map out every technical, strategic, operational and investment challenge. In this way, every challenge can be overcome, mitigated, and manageable so that we can continue to advance and achieve energy transition missions," Darmawan said in a statement to the media, Monday, April 29.

Since its establishment 5 months ago, continued Darmawan, JIC has made a significant contribution to the success of several pilot projects, including IoT technology in a distribution network called Intelligence Distribution Solution (IDS) combined with One Fiber Multi-Services (1FMS).

In the future JIC will also develop smart inspection networks, digital network operations, increasing human resources that master the latest technology.

Darmawan revealed that the existence of JIC will also support the Accelerated Renewable Energy Development (ARED) scheme in order to accelerate the energy transition.

Through ARED, PLN builds a reliable electricity system equipped with a smart grid to integrate the customer's generating, transmission, distribution and service systems.

"With a smart grid, we can align the operation of an energy storage system in the form of a battery as a base-load to get around the challenges of new and renewable energy intermittency (EBT). This also allows the distribution of electricity from EBT sources from very far locations to demand centers," said Darmawan.

Meanwhile, Vice President & CEO of Huawei Electricity Digitization, David Sun hopes that the various JIC achievements can be useful for the electricity industry in Indonesia, especially PLN.

Especially in increasing company efficiency and service to customers.

In the process of encouraging digital transformation in PLN, JIC has an important role. One of the technologies we bring in this collaboration is the development of 1FMS which we believe will become a world-class benchmark in the future," concluded David Sun.
