Foxconn Never Builds Factory In Indonesia, Bahli Will Go To Taiwan To Rayu Again

JAKARTA - Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia opened up about investment in Taiwanese manufacturing company Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.Ltd or Foxconn.

He said it needed a tremendous effort to bring Foxconn into Indonesia.

In fact, Balil admitted that Foxconn's investment was his toughest job while serving as Minister of Investment. Until now, his party is still negotiating.

As is known, Foxconn is scheduled to lay the first stone or groundbreaking in early 2023. However, until now the plan to build a factory in Indonesia has not been realized.

"I have to be honest saying that one of my biggest homeworks is Foxconn. This is still negotiating," said Bahlil, at the Office of the Ministry of Investment, Jakarta, Monday, April 29.

Therefore, Bahlil said he would rush to Foxconn's headquarters to discuss this investment. Even so, Bahlil did not reveal the main problem of why Foxconn's investment had not been realized.

"I will leave in the near future and I don't want this homework to be delayed. Honestly, Foxconn's business requires an extraordinary effort, I can't possibly explain what the problem is, but obviously there is one, two that I have to match with what they put forward," he explained.

Bahlil hopes that the target of bringing Foxconn into the country can be overtaken before the transition of government.

Moreover, he said, Foxconn's investment was also ordered by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Pray for God willing, it will be finished. Because that's my dream, because that is the order of Mr. President Jokowi. Foxconn is one of the investors we want," he said.

Furthermore, Bahlil explained that the company contributed 10 to 15 percent of China's total exports to the world. J

If Foxconn can enter Indonesia, he said, this will have a positive impact on the country.

"Because they are one of the largest companies in the world, 10 to 15 percent of their products contribute to Chinese exports. That's extraordinary. If it enters Indonesia, that's the top," he explained.
