JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the construction of drilling wells at six points in the Majene and Mamuju areas, West Sulawesi Province. This is to ensure the sustainability of clean water supply services for residents who are affected by the disaster in 2021.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of PUPR Endra S Atmawidjaja said the availability of clean infrastructure and water facilities as well as sanitation for daily needs of disaster victims is very important.

"I see that Mamuju and Majene Regencies have completely recovered after being hit by the earthquake in January 2021. In the future, we will continue to prioritize clean water services, especially in disaster-affected locations to ensure that all socio-economic conditions return to normal," Endra said in his official statement, Wednesday, April 24.

The construction of drill wells at the six points was carried out by the Sulawesi III River Basin Center (BWS) of the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of PUPR. The six points are Manakarra Stadium, Governor's Office, Korem 142 Mamuju, West Sulawesi Police, Simbuang Terminal and Mekkatta Village.

Head of BWS Sulawesi III of the Ministry of PUPR, Dedi Yudha Lesmana, said that currently drilling wells at the six points have been used by local residents, especially for those affected by the earthquake.

"The drill well pump is operated using solar power (sore sun) so that if one day a disaster or electrical disturbance occurs, the pump can still supply clean water," said Dedi.

Of the six drill well points built, said Dedi, the largest was at the Manakarra Stadium with a discharge of up to 2.7 liters per second. Meanwhile, the rest has a discharge of 0.9-2 liters per second.

"All the bore wells are equipped with water towers and public hydrants totaling up to 4 units, so that they can be used by many people at once," he said.
